    Crown of Lights

For someone who doesn’t enjoy shopping, I derive a decent amount of pleasure from shopping for groceries for others. I tend to harbor very low expectations which can be easily satisfied when met.

  • Raised Arms

    Raised Arms

Unhoused citizens, living in Oakland, often build structures beneath the freeways in neighborhoods, where the homes  of other disenfranchised citizens were destroyed to build those freeways.

    Rain In Richmond

As a photographer in training, I was cautioned to never to take photographs through a window. For me, being told to never do something always inspires me to ask why. I’ve learned to ignore the word never as much as possible. Since I spend a large part of each day, looking at the world through…

    Used Car Lot

Shiny things that move get my attention. These rainbow colored tassels over a used car lot in Richmond, catch my eye every time I drive by. They won’t make me buy the car but they do signal the idea that this is a fun place to spend my money if I were to buy a…

    Cross Walk

I’ve driven rapidly over this underpass hundreds of times. It never crosses my mind that I’m driving over the heads of others. The juxtaposition of the black and white crosswalk, the gold, glowing murals and the dark box shaped shelters of the unhoused is halting every time I drive through this underpass at night.

    Grand Red Lights

This image is loaded with some of my favorite visual phenomena. There are diffused, bright lights, converging diagonal lines, distinct points of light, reflective surfaces and darkness. My sense of hearing is also tied to this piece from the sound of tires on the wet road and the know and swish of the wipers moving…

  • Liquor Store

    Liquor Store

A lot of alcohol deliveries and consumption happens at night, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights. We also smooth ourselves at the day’s end the day with weed, ice cream, candy, cookies and other sweet treats. I wonder when and where it began and why it continues despite how much damage it causes? We know…

  • Yellow Warehouse

    Yellow Warehouse

I’m always drawn to corrugated steel building walls. In Guyana, it was a very common building material when I was young. Typically, it was used for the walls and roofs of small country houses occupied by the poor. The sound of rain was deafening inside of these homes.
